Au Kivu, la cantine Wamama Mbele, par les femmes et pour les femmes
Depuis des décennies, le mal-développement et les conflits armés rendent la vie très difficile pour la population au bord du lac Kivu dans la partie Est de la RD Congo. Depuis janvier 2025, la zone est occupée par le mouvement rebelle M23. Les femmes sont particulièrement visées par les violences et c’est sur leurs épaules que repose la survie de leur famille.
C’est là, à Ihussi, que les femmes accompagnées par l’ONG Groupe Espoir de Vivre, membre du RIEH, s’organisent pour ne pas subir mais prendre en main leur destin. Elles cherchent à la fois à nourrir leur famille et à offrir au moins un repas par jour ou de temps en temps à tous ces enfants mal nourris, aux femmes obligées de prendre seules leurs ménages en charge pour cause de veuvage ou d’abandon de famille par leurs maris. Sans parler des malades, des blessés, des invalides et des victimes de viol et de stigmatisation qui ont un besoin urgent d’assistance.
Ces femmes puisent la solution dans leurs dernières ressources. Elles s’associent pour redémarrer l’agriculture dans des champs communautaires. Elles installent des jardinières autour de leurs cases. Elles pratiquent le petit élevage. Elles apportent leur production à la cantine ‘’Wamama Mbele (Femmes en avant)’’. Cette cantine prépare des repas pour les femmes productrices et les femmes vulnérables ainsi que leurs enfants. Comme il faut aussi pouvoir faire des achats pour servir 50 repas par jour depuis juillet 2025, la cantine a aussi des clients payants.
La cantine ne sert pas seulement des repas.
· Les cuisinières et les productrices apprennent de nouvelles recettes pour des repas équilibrés.
· Les productrices apprennent de nouvelles méthodes de culture avec des engrais naturels.
· Elles apprennent à gérer leur entreprise avec ses différentes fonctions.
· La cantine est un lieu où les femmes parlent de leurs problèmes, s’informent sur leurs droits.
· Les femmes ont davantage le droit à la parole dans les familles et dans les réunions publiques.
L’économie humaine fait sens pour ces femmes qui agissent à la fois pour elles-mêmes, leur famille et leur communauté.

Initiative in India to help the small farmers to get access to knowledge and financial assistance
Today AREDS started four farmers producers social enterprises company to make the farmers get away with the middle men interference and make their product organic and healthy for the community. This is an initiative to help the small farmers to get access to knowledge and financial assistance from NABRD, national bank for agricultural development and other financial institutions to form themselves as cooperatives.
This will help the farmers produces to have their produce get value added and make it available for the consumers. In the long run the consumers also will become a shareholder in this enterprise. Social enterprise is seen as an alternative trade and consumption with collective participation, respecting nature and ecology. Each company will have 500 members as shareholders and each of the members will engage in cultivating what the company intends to produce.

To sustain development, we need to provide alternatives which can be replicated.

Belgian friends want to know more about the Human Economy
On April 19, 2018, the animators of the RIEH in Belgium, Jacques Briard, Luc Maréchal and Jean-Pierre Binamé organize two meetings in Namur, the administrative capital of Wallonia. They aim to present the vision and the approach of the human economy as well as the objectives of the International network for a human economy, drawing on the book Paths of Human economy. Yves Berthelot, one of the authors of the book, and Michel Tissier, Executive Secretary of the RIEH will intervene. The participants will mainly be students from the Lumen Vitae Centre and members of the Association of Mutual Aid and fraternity-living together and Church-Wallonia, a movement that is chaired by Luc Maréchal.
These organizations carry out actions of solidarity both at the international level, in particular in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Belgium. They are linked to the Catholic Church and make particular reference to the encyclicals Populorum Progresssio and Laudato Si but consider themselves "citizens of their region, Wallonia, and the world before being Christians". They have decided to participate in the network because they want to participate in exchanges with other organizations and people around the world who are referring to the Human Economy. The meetings will draw up the lines of an action plan of the RIEH Belgium group.

Young French people speak out on Human Economy
JINOV is an association that brings together professionals and volunteers from the West of France who animate various forms of popular education with young people. JINOV has been involved in the life of the RIEH for several years, notably because Jean-Pierre Dardaud, a leading animator of the association, has played a very active role in the writing of the book Paths of Human economy. JINOV organized in 2016 and 2017 several workshops and meetings proposing to young people to express themselves on the human economy, not after a presentation but spontaneously from their representation of the economy and the human.
A meeting was held on 2 March 2018 in Saumur between the animators of JINOV and Michel Tissier, Executive Secretary of the RIEH to learn from these workshops.
These were young people in transition between education and employment, or rather job search, as this is a long, difficult and precarious process. They expressed themselves in particular through small theatrical improvisations about what they themselves experienced or saw around them which appeared to them to be significant of the human or inhuman nature of the economy.
The most surprising is that they are mostly sensitive, positively or negatively to the quality of relationships in working life. Are they listened to, considered, recognized? Is there a relaxed or stressed work environment? Are the working conditions of quality? A human economy is first seen by this prism rather than by that of wages or even precariousness.
Situations considered inhumane by young people:
In a factory, the team leader blames the trainee for not working as fast as the storekeeper he assists. The latter takes the leader's side. They fail to point out that the trainee is less well equipped than the storekeeper to do the job.
during a job interview, the manager gradually makes understand to the applicant that there will be no pay slips. The worker accepts the offer by ensuring that "the black does not scare him". A few weeks later, as a victim of a work accident, the worker finds himself in the hospital where he is asked what his social security coverage is.
Some verbatim:
- " The economy is producing something, goods or services; The capitalist economy aims to produce money; Human economy to produce human well-being.
- " The economy does not allow to be human." Human errors at work are not accepted (delay, personal problem,... lazy)
- " Before there were religions; Now we live in a capitalist society; We are driven to acquire more and more goods "
- " We are all human at the base; When one associates money and individualism, self-interest, it is inhumane.
- " The more the employees are fulfilled, the more productive they are; Then we must find the balance between production and the human being "
- ” All the people who work are important; If everyone is considered important, the company works better "
- " When you work in a large group you can be taken for robots; In small companies we have better recognition "
- " I see the human economy in someone who works on his account by being passionate without scamming others "
- " When there is a real teamwork in a climate of kindness and sharing "
- " When a working collective adapts to the constraints of its members"
The following definition was given :
" The human economy is :
- an objective: the economy in the service of the human being
- a framework: respect, recognition of diversity, regulation
- a process that mobilises different forms of value (money, time, skills...) And who is paying attention to people, to the fact that a human is alive.
The main conclusion: the human economy is of interest to young people. Let us continue to let them speak and act with them so that the world would be closer to their aspirations.
